In 2001, Marleen began practicing Iyengar as a means to improve as a horseback rider. An avid equestrian, Marleen took an interest in dressage, a connection between a horse and rider. To achieve this connection, she had to develop physically and grow her ability to feel balance, harmony and responsiveness--Iyengar yoga met all of these needs.
As self-disciplined black belt in Tae Kwon Do, she focuses on yoga for mobility, flexibility, and well-being. In the fall of 2015, she became a certified Iyengar yoga teacher. She regularly attends teacher training workshops with senior Iyengar instructors and also mentors with other ILYS teachers.
She says that her equestrian background and interest in dressage have influenced her teaching style, and connection with her student, for the better.
"Three words to describle my teaching style would be kind, dynamic and compassionate," she says.
