November 8, 2013: Inversions -- Moving into Stillness
Patanjali tells us the state of union that is yoga arises when the mind is completely still. Among the many poses in which we can cultivate such stillness, inversions are probably the best. Together, headstand and shoulder stand bring balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the nervous system, and they link the breath to that balance. Stillness in this case is a fluid stillness that deepens with every breath and every minute adjustment.
