January 18, 2013 –- Balancing in the New Year
Balancing in poses is sometimes frustrating, sometimes exhilarating, depending on how successful we are and how successful we’ve been in the past. The same can be said for balancing (juggling) multiple responsibilities, balancing work and play, balancing a check book, to name just a few things. Can balancing one foot or on our hands speak to the more general idea of balance? In each case (i.e. practicing balancing poses and balancing a full life) we have an intention or aim (balance), and a gauge for measuring how close we are to balance (e.g. falling over, or not), and a method—a way of working towards balance. What we will work with in this workshop is the method of attaining balance, presented in a way that makes the method more widely applicable than just in the practice of asana.
